Now that you’ve understood some of the fundamental concepts of Ayurveda, we are answering the question, how can you benefit from incorporating the principles of Ayurveda into your overall wellness routine?

The aim of Ayurveda has always been to restore and maintain balance of the mind, body and spirit. Given the pressures and pace of modern life, it is easy to see how the following benefits of the age-old system of Ayurveda are relevant now more than ever (especially in the post pandemic fatigue state that many of us find ourselves in):

  • • Ayurveda encourages a cleaner approach to eating and understanding the impacts of certain ingredients on your digestion;
  • • Celebrates individuality by reminding you that you are more than just skin deep;
  • • Provides a greater understanding of who you are and your nature through the study of the five elements;
  • • Enables you to re-calibrate and manage your mental and physical state;
  • • Reduces stress levels and gives you a greater sense of mindfulness; and
  • • Ayurveda reminds you to love yourself first.

We will be uncovering each of the above in more detail through this journey together. Our aim is to build this community and share in our collective experiences, so don’t forget to tag us in social media. We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

By incorporating simple Ayurvedic principles into your daily life, you can achieve a balanced state of mind, a healthy body, and glowing skin through exercise, diet, improved sleep, affirmations, and the incorporation of simple ingredients into your diet.

Ayurvedic practices are safe and easy to implement and best of all - it is ALL NATURAL! Ayurveda focuses on creating a healthy foundation by starting with the mind before diving into diet and exercise routines. When we are mentally balanced and happy, it is easier to stay motivated towards self-care activities.

Our view is that whilst you should always consult a medical practitioner for health-related matters or before making lifestyle changes, you can only benefit from understanding your own composition and applying Ayurvedic principles that are tailored to bring you back into balance based on the very fundamentals of what makes you…YOU.

At Maruva Naturals we are on a mission to reconnect with our roots. Our skincare products are grounded in Ayurvedic principles and are inspired by forgotten African traditions. We are bringing it back home by incorporating African botanicals into our products. Take our Dosha quiz to identify which product range is best suited for you. The best of both worlds – a beauty brand by us for us and a true ode to our rainbow nation! We can’t wait for you to embark on the Maruva Skinvestment journey with us!

So if Ayurveda is part of the answer to achieving balance….why have we not heard of it before?

  • • Ayurveda is not an allopathic system (and it doesn’t try to be): Ayurveda and conventional medicine have uniquely different approaches. Even though Ayurveda is not based on mainstream western medical methods, which most people are used to, there is now science based evidence proving the validity of the Ayurvedic techniques for healing.
  •
  • • The ‘forgotten’ history: A lot of what is known about Ayurveda today is based on generations passing their traditions down, not unlike the forgotten secrets of responsible beauty that have been known to African indigenous women for centuries!
  •
  • Our exposure to Westernised media: The influence of the Western world and the media affects our perceived preferences and the way in which we live our lives. Ayurveda is still considered by many to be likened to “home remedies” and is therefore not regarded with sufficient and appropriate consideration.
  •
  • • Ayurveda is not a quick-fix solution: Our need for instant results and gratification leads to quick solutions being favoured over the long term Ayurvedic lifestyle approach.
  •
  • • Lack of exposure: Yoga is the sister science to Ayurveda but also only started gaining in popularity much later in the Western world. According to USA today, yoga is more popular than golf with 34.4m Americans now practising yoga. We think that with the right exposure people will learn to appreciate the benefits that Ayurveda has to offer.

In the next blog series, we will profile each Dosha; provide practical ways to incorporate Ayurveda into your daily life and understand how to bring your Doshas back into balance when imbalances occur during various stages of life. Also keep an eye out for a future blog series on African Botanicals where we will profile each of our skincare products and highlight the benefits of the African botanicals featured in each product.
